‘Mr. & Mrs. Smith’ star kept it so real about leaking breast milk on the Emmys red carpet

After announcing that she was expecting her second child back in April, Maya Erskine showed up on the 2024 Emmys red carpet looking stunning in a floral Rodarte gown. And while she posed flawlessly with her husband, actor Michael Angarano, the newly-minted mom of two kept it so real about the possibility of leaking breast milk through her custom frock.

In an interview with PEOPLE and Entertainment Weekly, the Mr. & Mrs. Smith star joked about the gown’s delicate embellishments, while also noting that her breast milk could make a sudden appearance at any moment. 

“I’m just trying not to leak,” she quipped, adding,  “Just so you all know, I just had a baby so my milk is coming in.”

When the hosts assured her that “if that happened, everyone would understand,” she joked, “It’ll look like it’s part of the dress, coming out of the flowers.”

Erskine also shared that, for her, the glitz and glam of posing for cameras is not her favorite. “The hardest part is the [red carpet] pictures for me,” she said. “So I feel like once I go into the theater, I’m going to splay out and enjoy, watch everyone, root for everyone. It’s just going to be fun. I’m really holding everything in right now.”

Of course, any new mama who has had to venture out in public after giving birth will instantly nod in agreement over her concerns, even though most moms aren’t usually stepping out in support of their Emmy-nominated TV show. Still, it’s always refreshing to hear a mom talk so openly about the realities of life with an infant, and how bodies are simply gonna do what bodies do, no matter the occasion.

The PEN15 star hadn’t previously shared that she welcomed her baby girl, with the couple announcing her pregnancy on Instagram in April. They also share a son, Leon, whom they welcomed in 2021. Few things are more chic than sharing your baby news in a gorgeous custom gown on a glamorous red carpet, while also making moms everywhere feel seen by her candor. Here’s hoping the pair had a wonderful night out together.
