Home / Entertainment / What To Read 10 books by Eric Carle to add to your child’s bookshelf The World of Eric Carle We're remembering the beloved author-illustrator, who passed away this week. By Jamie Orsini May 27, 2021 The World of Eric Carle Rectangle Eric Carle may be most famous for bringing “The Very Hungry Caterpillar” to life. The brightly colored story is one of the best-selling children’s books of all time, with more than 55 million copies sold since its debut in 1969. Carle produced more than 70 books during his storied career, eventually earning the prestigious Laura Ingalls Wilder Award (now called the Children’s Literature Legacy Award) from the American Library Association in 2003. Sadly, the artist and illustrator died this week at the age of 91. His son, Rolf, said the cause was kidney failure. Carle wrote and illustrated some of our very favorite books.
