By Kristina MacIsaac December 14, 2020 Rectangle 2020 has been a lot. In a year that brought us way too many heartbreaking headlines , sometimes you just need a little distraction. Luckily, a few cool celebrity moms brought us lots of laughs, some great movies and shows , and even a dose of history and inspiration. The celebrity moms on this list helped others get through a very hard year for that, we are so thankful. Here are the celebrity moms who wowed us with their coolness and contributions to pop culture in 2020: Chrissy Teigen In addition to being a mama, model, cookbook author, and muse to hubby John Legend, the coolest thing of all about Chrissy Teigen just might be that she is super, super funny. From the way she keeps it real about how hard it is to raise to kids, to her hilarious self- deprecating humor, a quick scroll through her Twitter or Instagram feeds is pretty much guaranteed to give you a few good chuckles. And of course, we can’t forget that Teigen came through in a big way for teachers this year, clearing out online wish-lists to get classrooms across the country stocked up for the school year. Beautiful, fun, and generous, too? What’s not to love about this woman? We admired Teigen even more after the strength and grace she showed after suffering a terrible tragedy—the loss of her unborn baby, Jack, halfway through her pregnancy. Her willingness to be open about her pain and grief can go a long way toward making sure other moms don’t suffer in silence. Mindy Kaling Mindy Kaling gave us the gift of laughter in 2020. Her show Never Have I Ever was a hit on Netfix in the spring, helping fans binge watch their way through quarantines and lockdowns. Kaling’s own quarantine helped her keep a major secret under wraps—without fans ever knowing that she was even pregnant, the comedienne announced she’d welcomed her second child . Just a couple of weeks after giving birth to baby boy Spencer, Kaling kept it real about her postpartum body. Discussing her cover girl turn for Vogue India, the stylish star said she almost declined the photo shoot because she just wasn’t feeling confident. She eventually decided to go ahead, however, and wrote that she was so happy she did. “Now I’m thrilled I have these photos as a memento of this very specific time in my life. ‘Post partum pandemic fabulous’ is what I like to call it.” Serena Williams Instagram There’s no doubt that Serena Williams is one of the greatest athletes in history, but the tennis champion is also an amazing mom, a fashion icon, and an advocate for equality and racial justice. She kicked off the year winning her first title since giving birth, and promptly donated her prize money to wildfire release efforts in Australia. Our favorite thing about Williams, however, has to be sweet and funny moments with daughter Olympia she shares with fans—like the little girl offering to give her famous mom a Covid-19 test, which Serena called one of “the new normal kid games.” Jennifer Lopez Instagram It seems like a decade ago, but it was just at the start of 2020 that Jennifer Lopez blew us all away with a stunning halftime performance at Super Bowl LIV. Lopez wrapped up the year being presented with an Icon Award at the Billboard Women in Music event —an honor clearly well earned. The amazing show was a family affair for Lopez, whose daughter Emme joined mom on stage to belt out “Born in the U.S.A.” It was one of many moments from the show that fans went wild for—but perhaps nothing left people more in awe than the fact that J.Lo is just as gorgeous, talented, and flexible at 50 as she was in her 20’s. Jennifer Garner Can we just give Jennifer Garner the title of America’s Sweetheart already? Garner has been one of the most relatable celebrity moms on the internet in 2020, from her quarantine memes to the hilarious glimpses of her life with three kids. If you haven’t seen her #PretendCookingShow, do yourself a favor and give it a watch. Reese Witherspoon Like Garner, Reese Witherspoon is another A-list actress not afraid to poke a little fun at herself to give her fans some quarantine laughs. Witherspoon took part in the 2020 meme challenge with hilarious results. In addition to making us laugh online, Witherspoon has seemingly been working non-stop. She scored a smash hit in 2020 with Little Fires Everywhere, is gearing up for another star turn on Apple TV’s The Morning Show , and kept us all reading with the fun Hello Sunshine book club. Kamala Harris Soon-to-be Vice-President Kamala Harris will make history as the first woman, first black woman, and first Indian-American to hold the office. Harris may not have biological children of her own, but she’s a loving step-mom to husband Doug Emhoff’s two grown children, who affectionately dubbed her “Momala.” Watching Harris shatter another glass ceiling has been thrilling for so many women and girls across the world this year, and Harris has done it in style, rocking her signature Chuck Taylors all over the campaign trail. Blake Lively Celebrities tend to make everything look easy, including parenthood. But actress Blake Lively has been open about her struggles this year, including how tough it was to make the jump from 2 to 3 kids. We love her refreshing honesty about motherhood, but we’re most intrigued by the fun and playful dynamic between her and husband Ryan Reynolds. The two seem to be in a constant prank war, and it’s so fun for the rest of us to watch. That includes a hilarious post where Lively roasted her husband for choosing a birthday pie instead of a birthday cake, cheekily captioning it with “I can’t believe we’re still married. ” Kristen Bell Parents all over the world suddenly found themselves playing teacher this year, with so many kids forced into remote learning by the pandemic. Kristen Bell had the guts to share how “miserable” it made her family, and moms everywhere applauded her candor. That honesty extended to Bell’s married life, including when she shared that she and husband Dax Shepard forgot their anniversary this year. With it being 2020 and all, who could really blame them? Meghan Markle Meghan Markle and Prince Harry—a.k.a the Duke and Duchess of Sussex—kicked off 2020 with an historic and shocking announcement—in January, the couple announced their intention to leave behind their full-time roles in the royal family. There’s been much gossip and speculation about what led to the split, and while we may never fully know what lead to the decision, there’s no doubt that the intense scrutiny (tinged with plenty of racism) Markle has faced since her relationship with Harry began no doubt played a big role. Markle handled the schism with grace—a trait she displayed again more recently as the couple shared the news of a heartbreaking miscarriage . For all the challenges and change 2020 threw her way—Markle has remained calm, cool, and collected, and we can’t wait to see what’s next for her (and the other amazing moms on this list) in 2021 .
