Pregnant Shawn Johnson East tests positive for COVID-19

Olympic gymnast Shawn Johnson East, who is pregnant with her second child, has tested positive for COVID-19.

“Got my results back today and they came back positive for Covid,” Johnson East, 29, shared to her Instagram Story over the weekend.

“Not going to lie… I’m nervous knowing I’m positive,” she continued. The Olympic gold medalist is mom to 15-month-old daughter Drew Hazel, who she shares with husband Andrew East.

“It’s been a long two weeks of RSV (respiratory syncytial virus) with Drew and now this… my body is exhausted.”

Johnson East also explained many of her understandable concerns about her diagnosis.

“1: I don’t want my family to get sick,” she listed. “2: I have asthma and have had it my entire life so this scares me a little extra.” Research has shown that both asthma and pregnancy can increase the risk of severe illness due to COVID-19.

Johnson East also added she recently watched a close family member battle COVID-19, so it “hits home in our household.”

The Olympian says right now, her symptoms include a cough, sore throat and headache.

“Fatigue for sure but…. that’s pregnancy haha,” she added. Last month, Johnson East announced that she’s pregnant with the couple’s second child.

“Not looking for any kind of (pity) party,” she continued. “Just a reminder to take care of yourself. Drink an extra water tonight and wash your hands :)”

In his Instagram Stories, Andrew East requested prayers for his wife’s health and “the health of the little bean and for everyone else struggling with sickness or illness.”

East, who’s a former NFL player, also asked for anyone who has been positively affected by his wife’s accomplishments to email any stories and well wishes to him.
