By Emily Glover July 9, 2021 Getty Rectangle In this age of social media, it so often feels like we only see the highlight reels in other people’s lives. For as much as we may love celebrating alongside our friends, it can be difficult to feel like you’re the only person in the world facing hardships in parenting, relationships, work and more. That’s why it was so nice for Pink to come right out and say it: Being married with kids is hard work. Good, worthy work—but hard work nonetheless. In a new interview with The Guardian, the music superstar was remarkably candid about the highs and lows of her marriage to Carey Hart. “There are moments where I look at [Hart] and he is the most thoughtful, logical, constant…he’s like a rock. He’s a good man. He’s a good dad. He’s just the kind of dad I thought he’d be and then some,” Pink said. “And then I’ll look at him and go: I’ve never liked you. There’s nothing I like about you. We have nothing in common… I don’t ever wanna see you again.” It’s a roller coaster Pink and Hart have been on for 11 years of marriage—which included a brief separation before they welcomed their first child in 2010 and second child last year. And, as most parents know, life has only become more complicated since those happy additions. (Let’s be real: Raising young kids isn’t always conducive to romance.) “Then you’ll go through times when you haven’t had sex in a year,” Pink said of her marital dry spells. “Is this bed death? Is this the end of it? Do I want him? Does he want me?” But along with the complications are renewed senses of purpose; you’re no longer in the marriage for yourself or for your partner, but also for the sake of the family you’re creating together. And, as Pink added, there is something amazing about continually committing yourself to the same person: “Monogamy is work! But you do the work and it’s good again.” This story was originally published on October 16, 2017. P.S. Romance doesn’t have to look like bouquets of roses and candle-lit dinners.
