Earth Day is coming up on April 22nd, the 52nd anniversary of the start of the modern environmental movement. The theme for this year’s celebration is Invest in Our Planet, encouraging everyoneā€“businesses, governments, and citizensā€“to act, innovate and implement meaningful change before it’s too late.

To that end, it’s never too early to start talking to kids about our planet and environment and ways to take care of the earth. One of the most simple and effective ways? Picture books that introduce them to the importance of plants and flowers, trees, clean water, and recycling. Better yet, after reading some of these books, you can even make a day out of it and tie in an Earth Day activity related to one of the books you read that will help keep the planet healthy!

We’ve put together a short list of some of our favorite books about the environment to read for Earth Day.
