By Heather Marcoux February 3, 2020 Rectangle America is still recovering from an intense Super Bowl and an even more intense halftime show. Jennifer Lopez and Shakira stunned in an incredible performance that proved pop music can be a powerful statement. This was the first time two Latina stars have shared the Super Bowl stage. About 98.2 million viewers watched the performance on TV and the YouTube version has been watched 18,445,462 times so far. It was an incredible moment for Shakira and JLo and also for JLo’s daughter, 11-year-old Emme, who sang her mom’s song “Let’s Get Loud” and channeled her inner Springsteen singing “Born in the U.S.A.” Two Latina womenâmothersâhad America’s attention for 14 minutes and it was amazing . The duo (plus Emme) used their time on stage to celebrate their cultures and remind America that children are still being hurt by the ongoing border crisis. www.youtube.com JLo, who is of Puerto Rican descent, wore a feathered cape that had the American flag on one side and the Puerto Rican flag on the other (remember how she donated $1 million for Puerto Rico hurricane relief?) and Shakira (who is half Lebanese) incorporated belly dancing and the zaghrouta (a traditional Arabic joyful ululation) into the performance. That moment was instantly trending. data-instgrm-captioned data-instgrm-version="4" style=" background:#FFF; border:0; border-radius:3px; box-shadow:0 0 1px 0 rgba(0,0,0,0.5),0 1px 10px 0 rgba(0,0,0,0.15); margin: 1px; max-width:658px; padding:0; width:99.375%; width:-webkit-calc(100% - 2px); width:calc(100% - 2px);"> Login ⢠Instagram Another moment that stood out was what Billboard called a “subtle border crisis statement”âwhen Emme and the other children crawled out of cage-like domes to perform. Emme’s dad, Marc Anthony, took to Instagram to share his feelings, posting a pic of his daughter singing while backed by a children’s choir. “Daddy is so proud of you. You are my â¤ď¸ and I am forever yours,” he wrote. data-instgrm-captioned data-instgrm-version="4" style=" background:#FFF; border:0; border-radius:3px; box-shadow:0 0 1px 0 rgba(0,0,0,0.5),0 1px 10px 0 rgba(0,0,0,0.15); margin: 1px; max-width:658px; padding:0; width:99.375%; width:-webkit-calc(100% - 2px); width:calc(100% - 2px);"> Login ⢠Instagram Emme’s dad wasn’t the only one moved by the incredible performance.
