Our friends on Sesame Street are doing their part to promote the coronavirus vaccines.

Sesame Workshop, the nonprofit educational organization behind the beloved children’s show, has partnered with the Ad Council, COVID Collaborative and the CDC to launch a series of public service announcements to educate adults about COVID-19 vaccines.

“Getting back to the activities children and families love starts with grownups getting vaccinated,” said Samantha Maltin, EVP and Chief Marketing Officer, Sesame Workshop.

“Together with the Ad Council and COVID Collaborative, and with help from the Sesame Street Muppets, we can harness the power of Sesame Workshop and the reach of the Ad Council to help adults understand why it’s important to get vaccinated, where to learn more, and how to build hope for sunnier days ahead.”

One of the videos features a fun take on Billie Holiday’s “I’ll Be Seeing You.” The Sesame Street gang is featured in a montage of all the group activities they’ve missed during the pandemic, and the Letter U makes the classic feel new again by singing along.

Two videos feature Elmo and his dad, Louie. In one, they discuss “feeling hopeful and excited” that many adults are being vaccinated. They talk about getting back to in-person visits with some of their favorite people, like Abby Cadabby, Cookie Monster, and Elmo’s Nana. In another video, Louie explains that he got vaccinated against COVID-19 so he can stay healthy and protect his family.

The campaign also features resources in English and Spanish for caregivers about the vaccination process and how to discuss it with children. It’s all part of the “It’s Up To You” education initiative, aimed at building confidence in the COVID-19 vaccines.

“It’s understandable for Americans to have questions about the vaccines. That’s exactly why we created ‘It’s Up To You,’ to arm people with the facts so they can make informed decisions for themselves and their families,” said Lisa Sherman, President and CEO, the Ad Council. “Now, in collaboration with Sesame Workshop and the Sesame Street Muppets, we’re able to reach new audiences of parents and caregivers with heartfelt and informative content that will help us all get back to the people and moments we miss.”

Just one more reason to love Sesame Street.
