Home / News / Viral & Trending TikTok parody highlighting how demanding and ungrateful kids can be at Christmas is TOO REAL @itsjennalu/TikTok We’re doomed. By Abi Berwager Schreier December 12, 2023 @itsjennalu/TikTok Rectangle TikTok mom Jenna Lu shared the difference between 10-year-olds on Christmas day in 2008 versus now, and it deserves a trigger warning for us parents who don’t have tweens yet. The huge difference between the spoiled brat aspect is the fact that the 10-year-old of yore actually received some toys. Like a child should. And the horrific 10-year-old from the present did not get one single toy, but a host of insanely expensive items that most suburban moms would like for Christmas. In the video, the first sweet angel baby 10-year-old is stoked to have received Lip Smackers. Chapstick, y’all. And it cuts to a 10-year-old now. She says (while holding her iPhone), “Listen, I know about Santa, so where the frick is the Dior lip oil that I asked for?” Related: Raising a tween is hard—but so is being a tween Next, the sweet 10-year-old is stoked to receive Heely’s (the shoes with wheels in the heel) saying, Heely’s? Are you serious? Are you serious right now?” And the mean nasty 10-year-old is holding some knock-off Uggs—the audacity—and screams, “What the f? I asked for platform Ugg minis, not some knockoff from Target.” @itsjennalu what happened to being a tween?? 😭 #christmas #christmasgifts #tween #christmaslist #y2k #christmasmorning #comedy #satire #greenscreen ♬ Theme For A Starlet – Chico Hamilton When I was 10 I was happy to get shoes from Walmart. I kind of want to strangle this fictional 10-year-old right now. Then the normal 10 year old was excited for Polly Pockets, an outfit from Justice, a DS with Nintendogs (which she was totally blown away), and a Bratz Doll. “But I thought you said they were too slutty, mom?” she innocently asks. The 10-year-old from Christmas present, AKA Hell, was stoked for a Stanley cup, and a brand new iPhone 15 (because hers was almost a year old). But she was angry because she received “Wunder Unders” (for $98) instead of the Lululemon Aligns like the link she sent to her mom. And the horrific video ends with the ungrateful 10-year-old saying, “Twenty-seven gifts and like none of them were Drunk Elephant. Like I feel like I was really clear about what I wanted this year, Mom.” Related: My daughter has entered the tween years—and I’m not ready. As an aside, I literally had to Google what a “Drunk Elephant” was as I thought it was like the game White Elephant. Boy was I wrong. The 2008 10-year-old said that it was literally the best Christmas ever, of course. And that she couldn’t wait to go play with all her new stuff. The operative word being “play.” Present-day 10-year-old girl said she was upset because she didn’t get anything on her list, “So yeah, like I think I’m just gonna go start a GoFundMe because maybe there’s someone else who wants to get me what I want for Christmas next year.” Sigh. The comments were a mixed bag. Unfortunately a middle school teacher commented that she can confirm that this is all accurate. And a tween mentioned that all the kids in her school wanted Lululemon, Kendra Scott jewelry and a Stanley. But thankfully some tweens came to the comment section saying they wanted video games, a sketch pad, and Bluey toys and Squishmallows. However, I feel like one commenter nailed it when they said, “It’s sad how much influencers have had an effect on this generation.” Hopefully this influencer TikTok mom will influence kids to not act so spoiled, and to be a little bit more grateful on Christmas Day. And get off of TikTok for goodness sake and play with a toy.
