Meghan McCain is angry that not all women have paid maternity leave

The View’s Meghan McCain is calling for paid maternity leave for all women in the United States after she learned first-hand how valuable it was to have time off from work after welcoming her firstborn, daughter Liberty Sage McCain Domenech. McCain returned to The View this week after giving birth in September and is calling on her fellow conservatives to support paid leave.

“As I thought about it, the more angry I got that there weren’t women in the rest of America that had the same kind of luxury that I had working here at ‘The View,'” she said.

She continued: “We as conservatives have to come together and allow all women in this country no matter where they’re from or their socioeconomic class the capacity to have what I just had, which is three months of bonding time and breastfeeding and healing.”

Three months should be the bare minimum, not the exception for the privileged few.

McCain is right. Paid parental leave should not be a partisan issue. It’s an issue that impacts all Americans. While Republicans and Democrats have both shown support paid leave, the parties often disagree about how to do it.

But it is time for the United States to relinquish its title as the only member country of the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) without paid leave.

Every mom should get what McCain did. McCain wants her fellow Americans to call their reps and explain that.

“Ask them why the women of America don’t get the same kind of maternity leave that Meghan McCain got,” she said.
