‘L is for Lilibet’ & other cute nicknames for your little one 😍

Prince Harry and the Duchess of Sussex, Meghan Markle, welcomed their second child, a girl, on June 4th, 2021. Lilibet Diana is lovingly named for Her Majesty, Queen Elizabeth, who family members call by her nickname, Lilibet. Sidebar: I had never heard this nugget of royal family information before—what a fun reveal of a beloved name with a nickname!

Her middle name, Diana, is of course in honor of her late grandmother, Diana, Princess of Wales. The nickname as a formal name has become more common in recent years, and Meghan and Harry’s new addition is just one such example. Perhaps we’ll now continue to see nickname names as a growing trend in popular baby name lists?

From Ellie to Jack, Lilibet to Leo, nickname names aren’t so unusual any longer. Plus, if you’re choosing a baby name based on a nickname you love, like I did, you’re already halfway there. I love that Meghan and Harry chose a familiar and loving nickname for their daughter, as they both clearly care so much about the Queen.

In choosing Queen Elizabeth’s nickname, they are paying tribute to a side of the Queen that only they know. What a wonderful bond Lilibet will have with her great-grandmother.
