Graham shared on Instagram. By Ellen Schmidt October 17, 2021 Ashley Graham/Instagram Rectangle Supermodel Ashley Graham is navigating the ups and downs of early motherhood and sharing about it on social media—and we are here for her relatable mom content. Graham and husband Justin Ervin are parents to a boy, Isaac Menelik Giovanni, who turned one in January. Between pumping in a cab and changing baby Isaac’s diaper on the floor while shopping at Staples, to surviving as a parent during the pandemic, Ashley Graham is every new mom, whether she walks down a runway or not. And we kind of love that about her. An author in addition to model and television presenter, Graham has been vocal about how damaging it can be when women view themselves as less than based on what society views as beautiful. As a new mother, she’s taking issue with the notion that women should “bounce back” quickly after having a baby. We are here for Ashley Graham’s body positive messaging, too, and grateful for every new mom she has positively impacted as a result. Here are 10 times new mama Ashley Graham kept things real about motherhood. “Raise your hand if you didn’t know you’d be changing your own diapers too🙋🏻♀️ After all these years in fashion I never could’ve guessed that disposable underwear would be my favorite piece of clothing but here we are! No one talks about the recovery and healing (yes even the messy parts) new moms go through. I wanted to show you guys that it’s not all rainbows and butterflies!” View this post on Instagram A post shared by A S H L E Y G R A H A M (@ashleygraham) While guest hosting the Ellen Show, Graham told the audience, “So you hear how hard it is, but you can’t fully understand what it’s like until you’re lying in bed, in the middle of the night, listening to your baby scream while your boobs are leaking everywhere. It’s really sexy.” “Breakfast of Champions 🍼 extra love to the multi-tasking mama’s club today as I check emails and pump 💪🏼” View this post on Instagram A post shared by A S H L E Y G R A H A M (@ashleygraham) “Sh💩t just got real! First diaper blow up while running errands with no restroom in sight! Thank God I remembered to put the changing mat in the diaper bag!!!” View this post on Instagram A post shared by A S H L E Y G R A H A M (@ashleygraham) “Oh, and did I mention all my hair fell out? Well at least my hairline. I had postpartum hair loss and it’s a really sexy thing that happens after you have a kid. And I say that it all fell out of my head, because you know who thrived during that time? My armpit hair.” “Standing feedings are a thing now 🥺my big boy! He’s not walking, but crawling and pulling himself up everywhere!” View this post on Instagram A post shared by A S H L E Y G R A H A M (@ashleygraham) In an interview with Harper’s Bazaar, Graham says, “Something interesting that I’ve learned about motherhood in relation to criticism is that, when you’re pregnant, everyone’s obsessed with you. But what happens when the baby comes, is that everybody has an opinion about how you should parent – even though they told you, ‘Don’t take advice from anybody.'” “Happy first birthday Isaac! ❤️You have changed my life and my heart in ways I couldn’t imagine. I can’t believe I’m already writing this, because it feels like just yesterday that we met. But at the same time, I also can’t remember what life was like without you. Watching you grow and learn has been the greatest gift.” View this post on Instagram A post shared by A S H L E Y G R A H A M (@ashleygraham) Speaking to fellow moms, Graham writes, “the challenges may come and go, but the blessings are just so much bigger than the little things that happen every single day. Hang in there, remember we’ve all got each other’s back.” Continuing, she says, “and remember how blessed you are to have such a beautiful baby in your hands. A little bit of unsolicited advice, also: Momma knows best … and you can use that line too whenever you get unsolicited advice from a stranger or a family member or someone that is a neighbor and you don’t even like!” “I could sniff and sniff and sniff allllll day long. But he won’t let me!!😭😭😭” View this post on Instagram A post shared by A S H L E Y G R A H A M (@ashleygraham) Related Stories News Nicole Kidman almost walked away from acting—her mom’s words echo what every working mom needs to hear News Meghan Trainor reveals she would ‘love to make another baby’ in 2025 News Jessie J shares the bittersweet reality of toddler motherhood: ‘People stop checking in on you as much’ The latest Infertility To everyone facing infertility this Christmas: I know the ache of ‘not this year’ Adoption I didn’t make my son, but I’m in awe that I get to call him mine Parenting We can’t keep waiting: How parents are leading the fight for safer schools Safety 10 surprising holiday toy risks you might not know about
