Zoom drops time limits for calls over the holidays

Zoom wants you to safely celebrate this holiday season with your loved ones.

The popular video chat platform is temporarily dropping its 40-minute call time limit for free so users can celebrate with loved ones near and far over the holidays.

Zoom officials say that COVID-19 has changed just about every facet of our lives and they know this holiday season will look and feel different, too. They want to make sure that even if you’re social distancing or quarantining, you’ll still be able to celebrate with loved ones.

The dates and times for unlimited meeting for users are:

• 10 a.m. ET Thursday, Dec. 17, to 6 a.m. ET Saturday, Dec. 19
• 10 a.m. ET Wednesday, Dec. 23, to 6 a.m. ET Saturday, Dec. 26
• 10 a.m. ET on Wednesday, Dec. 30, to 6 a.m. ET on Saturday, Jan. 2

“Whether coming together on the final day of Hanukkah, celebrating Christmas, ringing in the New Year, or marking the last days of Kwanzaa, those connecting with friends and family won’t get cut short,” the company said in a blog post.You won’t have to do anything to take advantage of the changes.

Not familiar with Zoom?

Google Meet has already waived call limits for its users through next spring.

“As we look ahead to a holiday season with less travel and important milestones like family reunions, PTA meetings and weddings hosted over video, we want to continue helping those who rely on Meet to stay in touch over the coming months. As a sign of our commitment, today we’re continuing unlimited Meet calls (up to 24 hours) in the free version through March 31, 2021 for Gmail accounts,” the company announced in a blog post back in September.

We know that this is a holiday season unlike any other.

We encourage you to keep your family safe by staying home, if possible, and social distancing. Take advantage of free calls from companies like Zoom and Google Meet until it’s safe to gather with your loved ones in person.
