Everyone’s favorite comfy, cozy, warm-sweater of a modern soap opera is finally coming back to Netflix. The writer’s strike has come to an end, and Season 6 of Virgin River is almost here after a long pause in production. And while fans are rejoicing at the return of this easily digestible show, they have some opinions about Jack and Mel’s never-ending misery.

They just want that to end already. Season 5 was definitely darker than other past seasons, and fans seem to be over it.

Virgin River lovers will recall that Mel (Alexandra Breckenridge) and Jack (Martin Henderson) went through a lot in Season 5. And that is an understatement. There was the miscarriage, the wildfire consuming the town, a drug cartel storyline, and Doc going blind? I mean, we love drama but seriously, guys.

Fans are asking for just a teeny tiny bit of happiness in the latest upcoming season. The writers of the series took to Instagram, showing a photo of them smiling (evilly?) at the writing table about to get started on more content. What are they plotting with those smiles? Will fans get a bit of happiness in the next season?

They sure hope so, as commenters of the photo begged on Instagram.

One fan said, “More Mel and Jack pls, and not so dark like Season 5. Can Mel get pregnant with no issues? Come on guys try to stick to the source of the writing and enough of Charmaine she has been pregnant for 5 years really…make it better, we like happy stories, which is the beauty of Virgin River, thank you.”

Another fan was super disgruntled because it wasn’t the warm blanket on a cold fall night of a show that she fell in love with.

“I love VR. But I have to say that I found Season 5 to be the worst of all. How did you manage to ruin the plot after such a beautiful 4th season? The characters lost connection. Where are Jack’s beautiful scenes with Mel? I realize that due to the great success of the last season you wanted to add a lot of glamor, but the series lost what we love most: the real connection and beauty of relationships.”

OK Virgin River writers, the fans have spoken. They want a little more love, happiness, and feel-good dopamine hits while watching the show, and a little less reality and sadness.

“I hope you can return in Season 6 with what fans really like most about this series: true and simple human relationships!” another fan said.

In fact, I think we all could use a bit more of that in our lives at the moment.

Will the Virgin River writers deliver? Will the show resemble more of a Hallmark movie this season or will it be edgier? Only time will tell.
