Home / News / Viral & Trending The debate that’s dividing the internet: Are you team top-sheet or team no-top-sheet? Wdnld/Shutterstock One little sliver of fabric is causing a whole lot of commotion. By Diva Anwari October 13, 2023 Wdnld/Shutterstock Rectangle How you keep your bed, like most things, is a very personal set-up. For one person a firm mattress is what lulls them to sleep like a baby but for another it’s like sleeping on a rock. A fluffy pillow can cradle your head like a cloud or you’ll wake up with a severe migraine from the lack of support Ideal sleeping conditions can be very different person to person—and apparently between generations as well. So, it should come as no surprise then that people are very divided over the top sheet debate. Team top-sheet is all for having that little barrier between their body and their comforter. Team no-top-sheet says it’s nothing but a nuisance, which side are you one? A study conducted by The Wall Street Journal revealed that Gen X and Baby Boomers are all for defending the top sheet but millennials and Gen Z are not willing to put up with it. One the one hand there’s the proper way to make a bed, the tradition of it all and, maybe most importantly, it keeps your body fresh. But who has the time anymore to pull that insufferable top sheet every morning and arrange it just so? And, yes, similar arguments are probably dividing whole households when it comes to bed skirts. Suzanne Duin, 63, an interior designer and founder of Maison Maison Design in Houston told the journal that she thinks, “it is generational.” She has been creating bedscapes—the perfect sleeping environment—for many years and many clients. Her more recent clients who are high school and college-age children have been requesting to nix top sheets in their arrangements. View this post on Instagram A post shared by WSJ. Magazine (@wsjmag) The comments make for a hilarious read of how zealous people are about their sleeping arrangements. People on both sides of this debate are fired up and it shows. “Fitted sheet. Flat sheet. Coverlet. Duvet. Fight me.” “Let the tyranny of the top sheet end once and for all!” “I’m a recent convert to ditching the top sheet. It’s a whole new world.” “Top sheet! I dont need your booty rubbing on my quilt thank you” So, do YOU need a top sheet?
