It’s everyone’s favorite end-of-year trend: Spotify Wrapped. Where we see what we listened to most, we all get to share our top songs and artists, and we even get a little deep-dive analysis into our listening habits. Sounds cool, right? Yeah, it is.

Except if you’re a parent. Because Spotify Wrapped makes it immediately clear who’s controlling the music around here, and it sure isn’t us.

Spotify dropped everyone’s Wrapped yesterday, which means people started sharing their results on social media. Which also means we were instantly able to identify who has kids out there. Like this mom, whose lists of top artists and top songs basically say, “Tell me you’re a parent without telling me you’re a parent.”

At least there’s plenty of solidarity for the parents who have their Spotify accounts hooked up to smart speakers or the car?

Then there’s this mom, who just leaned in and announced to the world that this isn’t her Spotify Wrapped, it’s four-year-old Emily’s. And with top artists like Parry Gripp, Diana and Roma, and Psy, it is, in fact, pretty clear that no adult touched this Spotify account at any point in 2023 (though shout out to Emily for her #1 artist being AC/DC — that’s not bad taste for a toddler).

Parents who have been going through this struggle year after year have been begging Spotify for a solution — perhaps having different user profiles like Netflix and other streamers do? But just so everyone knows, there is something you can do: Put all your kids’ music in a separate playlist and exclude it from your “taste profile.” That way, Spotify won’t include it in your Wrapped.

You’re welcome, and here’s to a Spotify Wrapped 2024 that reflects our actual taste for once.
