Look, crossing over to the dark side—van ownership—is a rite of passage for many parents. Mostly because minivans don’t exactly have a reputation for being cool vehicles, you know? And this mom has the most perfect, hilarious reaction to her own new van—or, rather, her “new SUV with sliding doors.”

TikTok mom @the_brick_house shared a video of her trying to accept the reality of that new van life. It, uh, doesn’t really work. But it is incredibly funny.

“She’s finally a van Mom and doesn’t know how to feel,” reads the caption of the video. The mom proceeds to give the camera a tour of her new, Not A Van But An SUV That Looks Like A Van.

“You like my new SUV? Not a van. It’s an SUV. It’s just got sliding doors,” she jokes. “2024 SUVs. They make them different these days.”

Watching her forced denial over the van is so incredibly relatable. While I personally do not own a van, I do own an SUV with three rows of seats. Because I refuse to purchase a van, and having just two children, I don’t need one. But vans are great vehicles for transporting 3+ children who have All The Stuff for All The Activities. They’re reliable, they have tons of cool features now that vans most certainly didn’t have when we were kids, and they’re a solid choice for many families.

But, you know, they’re still vans.

“You know these new SUVs, they be opening doors a little differently. So, don’t get it twisted. This ain’t a van,” she says as she presses a button to make the sliding doors open just like a van.

The video now has over 6 million views, and the comments do not disappoint.

“it’s a SPORT UTILITY …….van.”

“It’s a telluride with sliding doors. They just call it a different name.”

“It’s a MPV (Multi Purpose Vehicle). That’s what they told us when we got ours lol.”

“Love that two tone interior! Sweet SUV!”

“GIRL. I am right there with u. I will not be caught dead in a mini van. but this 1 is cool.”

The MPV—now that is how you sell a van!

Even better, there’s a follow-up on Day 3 of new van ownership for this mama—and yes, she’s still in denial.

“Welcome to my SUV, camper, limousine thing … not a van,” she says.

It’s clear that no matter what this…multipurpose vehicle really is, she loves it and it works for her family. And when her kids are all grown up, she can go back to driving whatever not-a-van vehicle she desires!
