By Diva Anwari February 7, 2024 WALT DISNEY ANIMATION Rectangle Disney just confirmed the release of ‘Moana 2’, coming to theaters this November. In addition to the live-action remake they announced in 2023, the ‘Moana’ sequel will extend the storyline and beloved franchise. “Moana remains an incredibly popular franchise, and we can’t wait to give you more of Moana and Maui when Moana 2 comes to theaters this November,” said Walt Disney Company CEO Bob Iger in a statement. Disney Animation also released a short teaser trailer: The video’s caption reads: “Walt Disney Animation Studios’ epic animated musical “Moana 2” takes audiences on an expansive new voyage with Moana, Maui and a brand-new crew of unlikely seafarers. I’m sure many parents still know the lyrics to “How Far I’ll Go” or “You’re Welcome” courtesy of their toddlers playing it on repeat! The live-action version was announced April 2023 with Dwayne Johnson (aka The Rock) confirming that he would reprise his role as the demigod Maui. In a statement released at the time he said, “I want to thank my partners at Disney for their strong commitment to this special endeavor, because there is no better world for us to honor the story of our people, our passion and our purpose than through the realm of music and dance, which is at the core of who we are as Polynesian people.” Related: Disney confirms live-action ‘Hercules’ is in the works—and the internet is going CRAZY The voice behind Moana, Auli’i Cravalho, has since gone on to star in the newest rendition of ‘Mean Girls.’ Cravalho, 23, won’t be starring in the live-action ‘Moana’ but rather is producing alongside Dwayne Johnson. In a past statement she noted, “She has had such a profound impact on how we think of Disney princesses. Moana’s strength and perseverance are inspiring—to audiences around the world, to me and to everyone who helped bring her to life. I’m looking forward to sharing her story in a whole new way.” ‘Moana 2’ comes to theaters on November 27, 2024!
