McDonald’s is releasing their McNugget Buddies again after 25 years!

‘90s kids, rejoice (AGAIN)!  This is the year that McDonald’s is bringing back all of our childhood favorites. We celebrated Grimace’s birthday with a purple shake (did you know he’s actually a taste bud?). After six years, McDonald’s reintroduced the “boo baskets” we adored as children and used for trick-or-treating. But now, our favorite “Buddies” are back. Guys, McNugget Buddies are coming to McDonald’s on Dec. 11, and they’re way cooler than they were 25 years ago—and even 25 years ago they were cooler than cool, especially in our elementary school minds, right? 

But these new and improved modern Buddies are inspired by artist DJ Kerwin Frost’s childhood in Harlem, with one of the nuggets being a miniature version of the DJ. The nug is obviously named Kerwin Frost, and he’s adorned with a matching face tattoo, complete with a top hat. The other McNugget Buddies include “Uptown Moe,” “Waffutu,” “Don Bernice,”  “BRRRICK” and “Darla.” 

Not only do we get these awesome Buddies on their own, but they come with interchangeable outfits. Bada ba ba ba, I’m lovin’ it!

As reported by TODAY.com, Kerwin Frost said in a press release, “I’ve loved McDonald’s since I was a kid. I even had my own Ronald McDonald doll that I brought to picture day at school, and it was my dream to collect all the McNugget Buddies.” 

“Now, coming up with my own special set of Buddies—each one representing different aspects of self-expression—it’s unreal, a dream come true,” he said.

But wait! There’s more! We have the McNugget Buddies coming back for a limited time, which is exciting on its own, but there’s also going to be merch released on December 11. You can visit the link now to pre-register for an alert telling you when the merch is live and when the McNuggets will be officially available near you. 

According to The Food Network, “For this reimagining of the characters, Kerwin Frost and McDonald’s invite us to visit ‘Frost Way,’ described as a place ‘where everyone is welcome to be exactly who they are.’” 

The Buddies also come with trading cards featuring their personality traits and preferred dipping sauces, Food Network reported, and they also come with your choice of 10-piece McNuggets or a Big Mac. And of course a drink and those famous fries.

Head over to your McDonald’s on December 11 to start your brand new collection of McNugget Buddies—and you don’t even have to order a Happy Meal to get them, but they do come in an “Adult Happy Meal,” which was released last year.
