Ford (@iSmashFizzle) July 17, 2022 also everyone knows the answer about "why Drew Barrymore is like that" is literally "because she had a delayed and traumatic childhood marred by addiction and neglect and then through lots of therapy and self-work has become more appreciative/aware than a regular person" right— Angie Manfredi (@misskubelik) July 18, 2022 I’m not even trying to be dramatic but you can tell Drew Barrymore thought she was going to die young and now my good sis is just living life the way she was meant to.— rachel leah (@raetheforce) July 18, 2022 i want to see the world through drew barrymore’s eyes. she knows something we don’t.— caleb hearon (@calebsaysthings) July 17, 2022 There is a reason why SZA has a song called "Drew Barrymore" and Drew appears in the video. There is something about this woman's resilience that spans across generations. After catapulting to fame as a child star after starring in E.T., Barrymore spiraled into drugs and alcohol at just 13 years old. By 14, she was staying in a psychiatric institution after her mom put her there. After a year and a half, she legally emancipated herself from her parents. Also? This is just who Drew is. Last week, she shared an emotional clip of herself as she discovered a covered-up window during home renovations. drew berrymore literally crying about the window she found behind a wall while renovating her apartment is camp pic.twitter.com/kLTnPKrf7x— Ronnie 🍉 (@RonnieKL13) July 6, 2022 Now that she’s mother to her daughter Olive, 9, and Frankie, 7, she says the chaos of her childhood is what motivated her to be a good mother and role model for her own children. “I didn’t have parents, I was the parent to them. It was all totally upside-down,” she says. “So I didn’t know what I was doing. When people would talk to me about parenting I felt like an outcast. It took years for me to pluck up the courage to say, ‘Can you speak to me as someone who is desperately trying to learn? Can you teach me?'” Earlier this year, she also opened up about what it’s like to date as a single mom—or the lack of dating, really. She and her ex-husband and the father of her daughters, Will Kopelman, divorced a few years ago. “I don’t know how to date with kids, you know. I’m not there yet. I have two young girls, and I’m like, I don’t want to bring people home,” Barrymore told “Queer Eye” star Bobby Berk in a clip that aired on CBS Mornings in January. If the viral clip of Drew in the rain tells us anything, it’s that she’s a total catch—and likely a very warm, very wonderful mom.
