Oprah gave Mindy Kaling the BEST baby gift ever

When Oprah gets a new mama a gift, she does it Oprah style, of course. That’s the lesson her Wrinkle in Time co-star Mindy Kaling learned after giving birth to baby Katherine late last year.

“I got a call from my assistant. She said, ‘Oprah’s assistant contacted me, she’d like to drop off a present,’” Kaling tells USA Today. “I’m thinking, that’s so nice, like, (it’s) probably flowers. I had a kid; I’m a single mom. That’s really nice Oprah remembered.”

Kaling, however, was surprised by what her assistant told her next. “Two men are going to be coming to your house, they said, with a U-Haul truck,” she continued.

Um, what? What kind of baby gift needs a U-Haul?

An awesome one, obviously.

“All you want in life is to hear that two men in a U-Haul truck are coming to your house because Oprah sent them,” said Kaling. “I was supposed to go to work that day (but I was like), I gotta be here.”

(Yeah. When Oprah sends something that big over, you take a personal day.)

“They arrived with a hand-carved bookcase, prettier than any professional dollhouse you had ever seen that contained a hundred of the classic essential books in children’s literature,” Kaling said in the interview. “And I held my baby up to it, and I said, ‘Did you see what Miss Winfrey did for you?'”

“Each book has ‘Katherine’s Book Club’ on it,” she told USA Today. (Excuse us while we dry our eyes.) We can’t imagine a sweeter and more amazing baby gift than that, but apparently, Oprah can.

“It wasn’t as perfect as I wanted it to be,” Oprah told USA Today, adding that she’d originally intended for the bookcase to look more like the treehouse Mrs. Who (played by Kaling) lives in, in A Wrinkle in Time. Instead, the custom piece came out looking more like “a beautiful castle,” according to Kaling.

Can you imagine growing up with that in your room? Katherine is one lucky baby, and Kaling is undoubtedly one lucky mama.
