Melanie Lynskey’s acceptance speech goes viral after she thanks her nanny

There have always been a million reasons to love Melanie Lynskey, and now we all have a million and one. Last night, she won the award for best actress in a drama series for her role in Showtime’s Yellowjackets, which is amazing in and of itself (and well-deserved). But it’s her acceptance speech that has everyone talking this morning.

After thanking the cast and crew from her show, she gave a special shout-out to her daughter and her husband, Jason Ritter, which was very sweet. But then she did what absolutely no celebrity before her has ever done from an award show stage (and very rarely do, ever, period): she thanked her nanny.

“The most important person I think I have to thank before I finish is my nanny, Sally. I love her,” she said. “She’s an absolute angel. She’s with my child and my child is safe and taken care of and she allows me to go and do my work,” she added. “Thank you, Sally. I love you so much.”

BOOM. YES. WE LOVE TO SEE IT. Because it takes a village, no matter who you are or what you do. And it’s just downright refreshing to hear someone with money and privilege not only acknowledge the fact that childcare is important, but to show major love to the human behind the childcare—amazing.

The moment immediately began to go viral on social media, because it’s so earnest and also incredibly important.

This isn’t the first time Lynskey has given us all reasons to admire and respect her (real ones began loving her the second she stood up for Drew Barrymore in Ever After and brought “a baby… in a bar” in Sweet Home Alabama).

During an interview earlier this year, Melanie Lynskey talked about experiencing body-shaming on the set of Yellowjackets. A member of the production team apparently criticized her shape while filming.

“They were asking me, ‘What do you plan to do? I’m sure the producers will get you a trainer. They’d love to help you with this,'” Lynskey recounted in an interview with Rolling Stone. She also noted that all of her costars came to her defense and penned a letter to the producers.

We love to see a fellow mama stand up for herself and share her accolades by lifting up other women who lift her up, too. Bravo!
