Anyone who’s had to pump breastmilk knows that the experience isn’t typically a favorite part of new parenthood. And many birthing parents choose to exclusively pump for a variety of reasons. TikTok creator and mama Elyse Myers is one of those parents, and in a now-viral TikTok, she broke down the time she’s spent exclusively pumping in an eye-opening video.

“I’ve spent 398 days exclusively pumping for my son,” she begins the video. “I woke up this morning and I was like, ‘I am done.'”

“2,388 hours I have spent hooked up to a machine to feed my kid,” she continues, growing emotional. “And that’s over 125 gallons of milk that my body has created to sustain life after it already grew it for nine months. And I am so proud of myself.”

If you’re unable to breastfeed but are still producing breastmilk or want to feed your baby breastmilk, you can choose exclusive pumping as a way to feed your child. It’s a great way to provide your baby with your breastmilk without putting the baby to your breast—but that doesn’t mean it’s easy.

Like Myers states, exclusive pumping requires you to be hooked up to a breast pump at regular intervals throughout the day at baby’s feeding times. Some parents feed their baby by bottle, others may have to tube-feed their little ones.

It’s time-consuming and exhausting, especially if you’re committed to exclusive pumping as a long-term feeding method.

It’s an achievement when any baby’s feeding journey moves on to the next phase, but it’s not hard to see why Elyse Myers is so proud of herself in this amazing video. Bravo mama! You did it!
