Meghan Markle sends supportive note and snacks to volunteers and staff @MomsDemand

On June 22 the staff and volunteers of @MomsDemand received a special surprise from Meghan Markle, the Duchess of Sussex. Shannon Watts, the founder of the organization Moms Demand Action, shared a picture of the letter on Twitter.

Moms Demand Action staff and volunteers have been working for years to change gun safety laws in America. They are a grassroots movement tirelessly fighting for public safety measures that could affect—and protect—us all. What started after the tragic Sandy Hook shooting in 2012 has grown into the largest gun violence prevention organization in the country with more than 8 million supporters.

In the letter, which appeared on official royal stationary, Markle gives a personal shoutout to Watts.

She writes, “Good afternoon ladies! To each of you and your fearless leader, Shannon, a huge thank you for the work you are doing to keep our kids, families, and communities safe.”

This act of kindness comes just weeks after the duchess made an incognito visit to Uvalde, Texas, to help the families of the school shooting victims. She showed up unannounced in a t-shirt, jeans, and baseball cap. Markle donated food at the local community center and laid flowers at a memorial for the Robb Elementary School victims.

The duchess also adds, “Please know that while you may feel exhausted by your endless hours of dedication to this cause, I hope you feel energized in knowing that the work you’re doing is vital and so deeply appreciated.”

And for those of you wondering what kind of snacks the Duchess of Sussex sent, Shannon Watts has an answer for you.

The duchess, who is mom to Archie, 3, and Lilibet, 1, didn’t didn’t schedule any kind of publicity stunt or share what she was doing on social media. She’s just a mom doing what moms do—supporting each other. And she’s doing it in a way that’s clearly bringing comfort—as Shannon Watts said, “Delicious and appreciated.”

As with any tragedy, we can feel at a loss for how to help or how to take action. This can be especially true if you feel you don’t have the financial means to make a difference. But, I think the duchess is a royal example of how every little bit helps. And if the bit you’re doing is empowering someone else to be able to do their job or encouraging other women and moms—keep doing it.

The duchess ends the letter with, “As a mom, as a friend, thank you so much!”
