When little Archie Harrison Mountbatten-Windsor entered the world earlier this month the big question was, where did he make his entrance?

Throughout Meghan Markle’s pregnancy, there was speculation that she would have a home birth, but after the birth announcement, the palace and Archie’s parents declined to comment on whether he was born at Frogmore Cottage or in hospital.

Keeping that bit of information to themselves may have protected the family’s medical providers from overwhelming press attention in the days following his birth, but on May 17 his birth certificate was made public. The document confirms that Archie was born in a hospital, the private Portland Hospital in Westminster to be exact.

Princesses Eugenie and Beatrice were born there and other moms who have delivered there include Victoria Beckham and Lady Sarah Chatto, the Queen’s niece.

We love that the Duchess of Sussex set some super clear boundaries about her birth and did what she felt was best for herself and her baby. For her, privacy was important and likely a factor in why she chose not to give birth in the Lindo Wing at St. Mary’s hospital as her husband’s sister-in-law and late mother did.

Just this week Prince Harry accepted damages and an apology from a news agency after a helicopter was used to obtain photographs of the interior of the couple’s former residence. When the pictures were published, it made it unsafe for them to continue living there.

Whether you’re a royal or not, every mom deserves the right to privacy while giving birth—and we’re so glad she got just that.
