If movies like “Sleepless in Seattle,” “When Harry Met Sally,” and every millennial’s favorite rom-com “You’ve Got Mail” played a major role in your formative years, well, prepare to hold back a squeal of epic proportions. Because the undisputed queen of the rom-com, Meg Ryan, is finally back on the big screen. And yes, she’s the lead in a new romantic comedy alongside David Duchovny.

On Wednesday, the trailer for “What Happens Later” debuted, and it looks so very promising. The synopsis: Willa and Bill are a former couple who unexpectedly reunite after decades apart when they’re both stranded at an airport due to a snowstorm.

Meg Ryan co-wrote and also directed the film. “What Happens Later” is based on Steven Dietz’s play Shooting Star, with a screenplay written by Dietz, Ryan and playwright Kirk Lynn.

The couple’s major flight delay leaves them with nothing else to do but reminisce on the many years that have passed since their break-up. As the night goes on, both Willa and Bill take turns blaming the other for their breakup, which leads Bill to admit he was very much in love with her.

“But as they unpack the riddle of their mutual past and compare their lives to the dreams they once shared, they begin to wonder if their reunion is mere coincidence, or something more enchanted,” the trailer states.

Sigh. The tropes, the actors, and the story—it’s basically a recipe for rom-com success.

Meg Ryan hasn’t starred in an A-list rom-com in a long, long time. She’s been working consistently, but not front-and-center as the leading lady like she used to. While there are, presumably, many reasons for why that is, it’s impossible not to wonder if the awful, unfair way people have publicly criticized her looks has something to do with it.

This spring, Ryan attended the premiere of “Still,” a new documentary about her friend Michael J. Fox and his battle with Parkinson’s disease. And because she hasn’t been photographed in public in awhile, everyone was quick to pile on with criticisms about how she’s choosing to age. More than one media outlet referred to her as “unrecognizable.”

Check out the trailer for this new movie. I dunno, she looks pretty darn recognizable to me. So recognizable, in fact, that my brain immediately clocked her as “Meg Ryan.” Because it’s Meg Ryan.

Naturally, many outlets love to slap photos of her in her early 20s and 30s next to her 61-year-old face—because how dare women age?! No one has ever said a word about Tom Hanks, her three-time leading man in the ’90s, and how he’s aged. Or the fact that society—and Hollywood—basically makes it a requirement for women to inject, nip, and tuck themselves into oblivion or face unemployment and disdain for their faces showing signs of a life well-lived.

Regardless of what naysayers (*cough* sexists and ageists *cough*) may think, Meg Ryan looks absolutely stunning at 61 years old. And we cannot WAIT to eat popcorn and watch her fall in love on the big screen once again.
