How often do we hear “The days are long but the years are short” in terms of parenting our kids? Constantly, right? And we hear it for a reason—because it’s true. And even Kim Kardashian parenting is hard parenting, as the reality star admits in a new interview.

Per PEOPLE, Kardashian talks about the highs and lows of parenting on an upcoming episode of the On Purpose with Jay Shetty podcast. She opens up about life parenting the four kiddos she shares with her ex-husband Kanye West: daughters North, 9, and Chicago, 5, plus sons Saint, 7, and Psalm, 4.

Host Shetty asks her what parenting is like for her now that she’s doing most of it solo, versus what she hoped it would be like before she had kids.

“Everyone says the days are long and the years are short, and that couldn’t be like a more true statement,” she explains. Yep, yep, and YEP.

She then gets real about the absolute chaos that is getting everyone ready in the morning—and it doesn’t matter who you are, if you’re a parent you’re already nodding in agreement.

“So, like, when you’re in it, I mean, especially when they’re babies and you’re feeding … there’s madness going on. It’s like full madness,” she says. “It’s the best chaos though.”

“It’s like I always have to do one of my daughter’s hair — and it has to be perfect and it has to be a certain way — and then this one needs me to put his shoes on and they all need you. It’s like full crazy madness, cooking, running around. Like, it’s wild.”

The anxiety of the morning “routine” is legit. If you feel your blood pressure spike while packing lunches, doing hair, getting everyone dressed, dealing with everyone’s moods, etc., you are far from alone. It’s absolutely no fun for anyone, mom or dad included.

On the flip side, Kardashian also says that “parenting is the thing that has taught me the most about myself.”

Once again: Yep, yep, and YEP.

“It has been the most challenging thing,” she continues. “There are nights I cry myself to sleep. Like, holy shit, this f—ing tornado in my house. Like, what just happened? You know, with all the moods and the personalities and sometimes they’re fighting, and you know, there’s no one there. Like, it’s [just] me to play good police officer and bad cop.”

She says she struggles with discipline and shares that she’s working on being a little bit “firmer.” But at the end of the long, exhausting, emotion-filled day, there’s nothing else she’d rather do than be mom to her four kids.

“That’s the only way I can describe it,” she says. “It is the most rewarding job in the entire world. It is. There is nothing that can prepare you. … I don’t care how long you wait. I don’t care what you’re waiting for. You are never prepared.”

“But,” Kardashian continues, “you will figure it out, and it will make you so proud of yourself that you figured it out and that you got through the day.”
