It’s been wisely said that parenting is like your heart forever walking around outside of you, and Dax Shepard can surely relate. The dad of two recently shared the thing that will “always” get him to cry, and parents everywhere will understand exactly how he feels.

Shepard appeared on the Tuesday, September 10 episode of The Drew Barrymore Show, with Dateline correspondent Keith Morrison serving as a surprise guest during host Drew Barrymore’s signature Fast Five segment. He told Barrymore that he and wife Kristen Bell are big fans of Morrison, appearing utterly delighted when he saw Morrison on screen.

“What is something that will always get you to cry?” Morrison asked as one of his five questions, and Shepard’s answer will probably make you swoon just a little bit.

“100% when I see — It used to be when I would see Kristen sing,” he said, “Which I get to see occasionally. She’ll host a charity event or something and she’ll sing, and every time I think ‘I can’t believe you can do that. It’s just so incredible.’ So I always cry when she sings.”

Bell seems to have passed her powerhouse pipes to the couple’s 11-year-old daughter, Lincoln, which means Shepard is seemingly left reeling every time the pair team up for a mother-daughter duet.

“Now we have an 11-year-old who sings as well, and does musical theater, and now I go and I cry the whole time she’s singing. If they sing together, I cry,” he continued. “That’s pretty much a fast-pass to me crying, either of those ladies singing.” Too sweet and so relatable.

Morrison also asked Shepard what he’s now an expert on, as a father of two girls. “Oh, where do we start? Taylor Swift,” he answered immediately. “I’m a Swiftie,” he admitted.

“I am too,” Barrymore proclaimed excitedly. “How could you not be?” Shepard replied. “If you hate being alive, you’re not a Swiftie,” he quipped.

His other area of expertise? “I’m an expert on where ponytail holders are. They’re everywhere by the way, just look. Just open your eyes. If you’re looking for a ponytail holder, odds are you’re next to one.” Yep, truer words have never been spoken on every front here.
