There’s been no shortage of heartbreaking bombshells in Britney Spears’s memoir “The Woman in Me,” which hit bookshelves on October 24. In the book, she opens up about her relationship with Justin Timberlake, motherhood, and her 2022 miscarriage.

Spears, 41, says she was “eager” to start a family with Sam Asghari, 29, but admits that she was also “scared” due to her previous experiences with depression. Spears shared the news that she was pregnant in an April 2022 Instagram post, but a month later, the couple announced that she had experienced a “devastating” miscarriage.

“Perhaps we should have waited to announce until we were further along however we were overly excited to share the good news. Our love for each other is our strength,” Spears and Ashgari shared on social media. “We will continue trying to expand our beautiful family. We are grateful for all of your support. We kindly ask for privacy during this difficult moment.”

In her memoir, Spears writes that she turned to music to cope following the pregnancy loss, writing that singing and dancing gave her “a new way to escape.”

Unfortunately, Spears isn’t alone in suffering a miscarriage. According to the March of Dimes, about 10-20% of known pregnancies end in miscarriage. The vast majority of miscarriages – about 80% — happen in the first trimester. After the 12-week mark, the risk of miscarriage falls to 1-5%.

Spears and Asghari married in June 2022 but ended their relationship 14 months later. Spears also has two teen children – Preston, 18, and Jayden, 17 – with Kevin Federline. She recently wrote that she exchanged her freedom for time with her children.

“My freedom in exchange for naps with my children — it was a trade I was willing to make,” she wrote.

Despite her estrangement from Asghari, he has been supportive of Spears writing her memoir.

“She put a lot of work into it, and it was very hard,” he told TMZ, saying he’s “very proud” of her accomplishment. “I’m definitely excited, and I’m extremely proud of her. It was a very tough one [to write].”
