To the world, she’s a cultural icon, a musical powerhouse, and one of the most influential women of our time. But at home, Beyoncé is simply “Mom.” And in a rare behind-the-scenes moment, the Queen Bey let us into her world as a proud mother in an exclusive Disney Studios interview with her eldest daughter, Blue Ivy Carter.

As mother and daughter lend their voices to Disney’s upcoming The Lion King prequel, Mufasa, it’s clear this isn’t just another professional project for Beyoncé—it’s a deeply personal one. Beyoncé reprises her role as Nala, while 12-year-old Blue Ivy makes her feature film debut as Kiara, Nala and Simba’s daughter. The pair’s shared moments in the recording booth reveal a bond as powerful as Beyoncé’s vocals.

“Seeing Blue as Kiara and hearing her voice come out of that character…it was really hard to focus and do my job after that,” Beyoncé confessed, laughing through tears in a Harper’s Bazaar interview. “I was like, ‘Wait, hold up guys. Y’all gotta give me a second. I have to digest that.’ I’m so proud of her.”

For Blue, the experience was just as meaningful. She reflected on the supportive environment created by director Barry Jenkins, sharing, “He tells me ways I can improve my lines in the nicest way possible. It’s just been an amazing experience.” Blue also expressed her pride in representing girls who look like her, saying, “I’m really happy for girls around the world to watch this movie and see themselves in it.”

And as if our hearts weren’t already full, 7-year-old Rumi Carter made an adorable cameo during the interview, lovingly nicknamed “Rum Rum” by her big sister. It’s these tender family interactions—whether in the spotlight or behind closed doors—that make Beyoncé not just a superstar, but a relatable mom, trying (and succeeding!) to hold back tears of pride.

Beyoncé’s ability to celebrate her children while allowing them to shine as individuals is a masterclass in modern parenting. She’s not just guiding Blue and her siblings through life—she’s cheering them on, reminding them (and us) that even the brightest stars began as someone’s baby. And as Beyoncé reminded Blue during their recording session, “Nobody’s prouder than Mommy.”
