The potentially affected vegetables were distributed in the United States and Canada with “best if used by” dates of October 11 to October 20. The varieties were primarily cruciferous vegetables, such as broccoli, cauliflower and Brussels sprouts. The full list along with the UPC codes is available on the Food and Drug Administration’s website. The brands in the recall include: Archer Farms HEB Little Salad Bar Mann or Mann’s Signature Farms Trader Joe’s Compliments Western Family Walmart Cross Valley Farms Sysco Natural According to the FDA’s Mann Packing report, the company issued the recall after a random test in Canada turned up a positive result for the contamination. Public health officials in the United States and Canada have not reported any associated illnesses, but the FDA reports the company went through with the recall out of “an abundance of caution.” “As an owner of this company and a mom, providing safe and healthy foods to our consumers and their families is always our top priority,” says Gina Nucci, Director of Corporate Marketing, in the FDA release. “This voluntary recall is a reflection of our commitment to ensuring the safety of our consumers.” According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, Listeria is a particularly big threat to the elderly population, children and pregnant women. Symptoms for the general population include headaches, fever, confusion and muscle aches. Affected pregnant women typically experience fever and other flu-like symptoms. Any symptoms typically present one to four weeks after eating contaminated food. Anyone concerned about having eaten the contaminated products should consult with a health care professional. Customers who purchased the products should discard them or return them to the place of purchase for a full refund.
