Prince Harry and Prince William came together today to honor their mother, Princess Diana, on what would have been her 60th birthday. The reunion took place at the home she shared with her sons at Kensington Palace. The statue is a clear tribute to her most important role—”mother.”

The statue, first commissioned in 2017, was created to depict Princess Diana with children to reflect her work to support and nurture children around the world.

The children featured in the statue aren’t William and Harry, but her mother’s heart comes across loud and clear. And it’s beautiful.

“Today, on what would have been our Mother’s 60th birthday, we remember her love, strength and character – qualities that made her a force for good around the world, changing countless lives for the better,” William and Harry said in a joint statement released on Thursday.

The statement continued, “Every day, we wish she were still with us, and our hope is that this statue will be seen forever as a symbol of her life and her legacy.”

At the unveiling, the brothers thanked everyone who helped bring the statue and surrounding garden to life, and also expressed gratitude to “all those around the world who keep our mother’s memory alive.”

It’s the first time Prince Harry and Prince William have been together since the funeral of their grandfather, Prince Philip, earlier this year. Princess Diana’s siblings were also in attendance.

While there are undoubtedly unresolved (and valid) issues between Harry and his family, it’s nice to see he and his brother coming together to honor their much-beloved mother in such a meaningful way.
