North West goes live on TikTok—much to Kim’s horror

Kim Kardashian and her oldest child, North West, recently joined TikTok together. North, who is eight years old, proved that she’s probably more tech-savvy than her mom may have realized this week when she decided to go live on TikTok. The result included a rogue house tour (thanks, North) and a none-too-pleased Mama Kim.

During the almost three-minute video, North showed us the ropes around the ol’ Kardashian-West mansion full of many unidentifiable cream-colored blobs that are likely pieces of furniture that cost more than my private university’s tuition. Viewers also got to see a killer setup for a private Sing 2 viewing party, North’s room, and Kim lying in bed scrolling on her phone (relatable).

“Mom, I’m live!” North chirps as she bursts into her mom’s bedroom, giggling uproariously.

“No! Stop, you’re not allowed to,” Kim says, getting ready to jump out of bed. “Come on, is she really live?” she asks someone nearby.

While the entire thing is undeniably entertaining, some viewers expressed concern over North’s safety online. Especially because she’s so young, and having unsupervised access can lead to…well, what it led to. Or worse.

One person remarked that “showing their house is dangerous,” while many others felt that North shouldn’t have access to TikTok altogether.

In the aftermath of The Live That Wasn’t Supposed To Happen, Kardashian shared a screen shot of a text from her nephew Mason. Earlier this year, Mason Disick (Kourtney’s oldest son) went live on TikTok and revealed some family gossip to all of his followers (his account was quickly shut down by his mom afterward). So he knows a thing or two about learning lessons from going live.

“Hi I don’t wanna disrespect north but I don’t think she should do the lives unless someone is with her because people are always screen recording and she might tell information that isn’t correct and stuff like that, that she will regret,” Mason texted his aunt. “I did the exact same thing as she did. I would do the lives and now I regret saying one of the things that I said.”

Kardashian thanked her nephew for looking out for his little cousin. She went on to say North “felt bad” for doing it and won’t be doing it again.

While most kids obviously don’t have the type of platform that Kardashian kids do, it’s important to watch and learn as new generations of digitally native kiddos navigate the social media world—and how we can keep them (and our personal, private information) safe.
