By Cassandra Stone November 3, 2021 Bruce Bennett/Getty Rectangle Now that children between the ages of 5-11 can now get the COVID vaccine, parents everywhere are wondering when they’ll be able to snag an appointment. If you don’t want to wait for your pediatrician’s office to open up slots, you don’t have to. Both CVS and Walgreens are open for online scheduling right now. Yes, that means you can go online right now and schedule your child for their COVID vaccine—both doses. The moment many parents have been waiting months (or years, really) is finally here! Both pharmacies are offering appointments as soon as this weekend (until slots fill up). “This is really just a time for parents to celebrate,” Centers for Disease Control and Prevention Director Rochelle Walensky said Wednesday on “Good Morning America.” “Importantly, we’ve taken the time to get this right, to do the science, to have a kids’ dosing schedule,” she said. CVS will begin administering the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine for kids 5 to 11 on Sunday, spokesperson Joe Goode told USA TODAY. Walgreens will begin administering the pediatric doses at thousands of stores nationwide starting Saturday. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s (CDC) advisory panel unanimously voted to recommend Pfizer’s vaccine for kids ages 5 to 11 and just hours later, CDC Director Dr. Rochelle Walensky issued her endorsement, allowing vaccines to be distributed immediately. President Biden released a statement marking the decision, calling it “a turning point in our battle against COVID-19,” and declaring it “a major step forward for our nation in our fight to defeat the virus.” You can schedule your child’s vaccine at CVS here and at Walgreens here.
