Mindy Kaling opens up about being pregnant during a pandemic: it ‘was a little scary’

We love Mindy Kaling for so many reasons. She’s fierce, funny, and fashionable. The new mom of two is also devoted to her children and their privacy. So devoted, in fact, that she was able to keep her latest pregnancy a secret until after her son was born!

Everyone’s favorite Office mate Mindy Kaling announced Thursday on the Late Show with Stephen Colbert that she’s been quite the busy mama during quarantine—even growing and birthing a whole human while her adoring fans had no idea!

Here’s the actress, currently working on Netflix’s show Never Have I Ever (loosely based on Kaling’s childhood), explaining it all to Colbert:

“I’m telling it for the first time now, it feels so strange. But I gave birth to a baby boy on September 3,” Kaling told the late night host.

“No one even knew you were pregnant!” Colbert noted, speaking for all of us.

“I know! I know! This is news to a lot of people,” the actress said. “It’s true.”

Her son, named Spencer, joins 2 1/2-year-old big sister, Katherine.

She’s now beginning to share more about her pregnancy, including what it was like during the pandemic. In a new post she shared on Instagram, Mindy wrote, “Thanks everyone for your kind words about the new addition to my family. Being pregnant during the pandemic was a little scary, but it made me appreciate all the doctors, nurses and medical professionals who continue to work tirelessly giving treatment to those who need it, putting their own lives at risk.”

After sharing her appreciation for medical workers, Kaling then gave us a sweet update on baby Spencer and his big sister, Katherine. Spoiler alert: she really likes his toys.

“Spencer is happy and healthy and his sister is obsessed with him (well, his toys),” she continued in the post. “It’s been so fun having him in the house, I almost forget I’m outnumbered now. Love and grateful hugs. Xoxo MK”
