Home / Life A doctor’s prescription of hugs has gone viral and we are all a puddle of tears now A grandmother was prescribed hugs after a year of isolation. By Motherly Editors March 12, 2021 Rectangle Earlier this week Jessica Shaw tweeted a photo of the doctor’s prescription her mother had received with the text “My mom’s doctor wrote her a prescription to hug her granddaughter.” The prescription itself read “you are allowed to hug your granddaughter” in almost illegible (and totally classic) doctor handwriting. Shaw followed up the tweet with a video of grandmother and grandaughter embracing for the first time in a year—and frankly, it makes us sob just as much as grandma is. So many of us are waiting for that moment of our own. We want our children to hug their grandparents so bad. We miss our families so much. First hug she’s had in a year. Thank you to all the scientists and doctors who made this happen! https://t.co/puvJlJpDoy — Jessica Shaw (@JessicaShaw) 1615298468.0 Grandma Shaw was able to see her family after receiving her second dose of the COVID-19 vaccine, something Jessica Shaw alluded to in her second tweet by thanking the scientist who got us to where we are now—seeing the light at the end of a very dark and long tunnel. The grandmother told CNN that the doctor’s note gave her the courage to let her granddaughter into her apartment, even when both had completed their COVID protocol. She said “I was stuck in COVID land,” before breaking down into tears remembering that first hug. A hug she’s going to remember for the rest of her life. Shaw’s tweet has so many replies of parents feeling this in their bones. Kim Shiffman, EIC of Today’s Parents said “I’m bawling. Can’t wait for my mom to get to hug her grandkids again.” Hopefully soon, we will all be hugging again.
