Gigi Hadid’s mom confirms she’s ‘excited to become an Oma in September’

When celebrity gossip site TMZ broke the news that supermodel Gigi Hadid and former One Direction member Zayn Malik are expecting a baby fans were shocked, and so was Hadid’s mom, Yolanda Hadid.

In an interview with Dutch-language show RTL Boulevard Yolanda explains that she’s very excited about the pregnancy but expected the news to stay within the family for longer.

“Still shocked our little secret got leaked to the press. Of course, we are so excited. I’m excited to become an Oma in September especially after I lost my mom so recently,” Yolanda said (in Dutch, we’ve translated to English).”But this is the beauty of life, one soul leaves us and a new one comes in. We feel very blessed.”

The Oma-to-be confirmed that Gigi is about 20 weeks along but did not comment on whether Gigi’s 25th birthday party was also a gender reveal party, as some fans are speculating. On her 25th birthday, Gigi posted several photos of two number balloons: One has a pink ribbon and one has a blue ribbon.

The balloon ribbons, combined with a gift bag Gigi’s sister posted in her Instagram Stories (and cleverly concealed with a strategically placed flower sticker) convinced One Direction fans that Gigi and Zayn are expecting a girl. Bella’s Story showed a pink gift bag was on the table at Gigi’s 25th birthday party and some internet sleuths discovered the bag says “hello little one” on it.

There you have it. It’s a September baby for Gigi and Zayn and while we don’t know for sure that it’s a girl, we do know that a grandmother is very excited to welcome this fall baby.
