Disneyland: A vacation spot turned mass vaccination site

Disneyland remains closed to vacationers but workers in California who need to get vaccinated against COVID-19 may find themselves at the theme park in the near future.

This week California officials announced the theme park will be Orange County’s first Super POD (Point-of-Dispensing) site.

In a statement to media, Andrew Do, acting chairman of Orange County’s Board of Supervisors explained: “The Disneyland Resort, the largest employer in the heart of Orange County, has stepped up to host the county’s first Super POD site — undertaking a monumental task in our vaccination distribution process.”

The first folks to get vaccinated at the Disneyland Resort will be those who are contacted through their employer. Other POD sites include Los Angeles’ Dodger Stadium, San Diego’s Petco Park, and Sacramento’s Cal Expo, according to CNN.

“It’s important to vaccinate as many willing people as possible for Covid-19, and we need the space to do it,” said county Supervisor Donald P. Wagner. “I thank Disneyland Resort and the City of Anaheim for stepping up in the shared effort to give OC residents protection against the virus.”

While California’s Disney Park prepares for vaccinations, Florida’s Walt Disney World is welcoming vacationers, but officials there are considering using that theme park for vaccinations as well, WESH2 reports.

“It seems like Walt Disney World has the technology to store vaccines and that is a really important dynamic, but also geographically Orange County sits between Polk and Osceola Counties and these are all counties of great need,” said Rep. Anna Eskamani, D-Orlando.
