Home / Entertainment There’s a new educational show for Latinx families (& those who may want to learn Spanish, too) There are many exciting adventures ahead on Club Mundo Kids. By Ellen Schmidt April 13, 2021 Rectangle Looking for a way to introduce a new language to your little one? Club Mundo Kids is a brand new educational series aimed at first and second generation Latinx children, airing on Televisa, Universo and via the show’s YouTube page. Romina “Romi” Puga, a former ABC News correspondent, hosts the program from her “clubhouse” along with two puppet friends, Coco and Maya. On each episode, Romi and friends learn about everything from space exploration to endangered animals, all while talking to experts and working on projects, including creating a house out of recycled items. I also like that each episode involves children submitting questions to an expert. On this season of Club Mundo Kids, viewers will hear answers from NASA’s human space flight mission manager, Rosa Ávalos-Warren, wildlife expert Ron Magill, and 11 year old conservationist Jack Dalton, among many others. While the show is meant for children who are growing up speaking Spanish as their first language, I also strongly believe that if you’re interested in having your child learn a second language, early immersion through educational television, reading books, listening to music and through play can be effective ways to begin. My children attend a dual-language school, and I’ve seen first hand how this type of classroom instruction has enhanced their Spanish language skills in a way I never felt possible, especially since neither my husband or I speak the language. If you are contemplating immersion education for your child, this may be one low impact way to test it out. Also, did we mention puppets? Check out a preview of Club Mundo Kids after the jump.
