Home / Life / Beauty & Style Charlene Barkulis’ Pregnancy Style Bump envy! By Charlene Petitjean-Barkulis July 3, 2017 Rectangle Name: Charlene Barkulis Neighborhood: Greenpoint, Brooklyn Occupation: Managing editor at Well Rounded Baby’s Sex: Boy! How would you describe your pregnant style? I tend to go from comfortable, flowy onesies to bodycon dresses — two styles that I didn’t have the guts to embrace before being pregnant. Once I have that down, I usually layer it with denim, like a jeans jacket or vest. Since pregnancy is a great time to favor comfort, I expanded my collection of flat shoes… a lot. Of course, I’ve got Birkenstocks and Pons, but I also took the opportunity to get my sneaker game on. Vans, Adidas, Nike, New Balance… you name it… although, I’m still missing my pair of Chucks. Have you had any challenges learning to dress your body during this pregnancy? The in-between: when the bump’s there, but not obvious enough to want to show it off, or when showing it off isn’t quite flattering just yet. I also had a hard time finding comfortable clothes to wear during the first trimester. I wasn’t showing yet, but somehow my regular pants didn’t fit. I very quickly (too quickly?) resorted to leggings. So far, what has surprised you most during your pregnancy? I honestly can’t believe how much I have been able to do on such sporadic sleep and with what feels like half a brain. I’m also pretty amazed at how fast everything has gone by. I had so many things planned — from date nights to birthing classes — and here I am, 37 weeks pregnant, telling my husband that there’s no time for date night because I need to cram for that hypnobirthing test that’s just around the corner. Oh and one last thing: this baby is strong! He’s kicking so, so much and definitely making his presence known, which is an awesome surprise considering that my doctor had warned me about my anterior placenta possibly muting his movements. What are you most looking forward to sharing with your baby? Big brother! One of the first things I absolutely adored doing was making Arthur laugh. And though I look forward to doing the same with this little dude, I’ll gladly pass on the baton to Arthur so he can take on that role. I’m not sure my iPhone storage will be able to handle all the cuteness that I’ll be documenting. What’s your top 5 registry essentials? 4MOMS Mamaroo. Bugaboo Cameleon stroller. Ergobaby adapt. Nuna PIPA. Bloom Alma Mini crib.
