A judge has officially suspended Jamie Spears, father and conservator of 13 years to his daughter, Britney Spears, has officially from his daughter’s conservatorship. This marks a huge victory for Britney and the #FreeBritney movement, as the singer has already made it clear she wants her father to no longer have the legal right to control her life.

Per CBS News, Judge Brenda Perry agreed with a petition from Britney’s lawyer, Mathew Rosengart to suspend Jamie. She temporarily appointed John Zabel, a certified public accountant, as manager of her finances. The judge said her father’s suspension was in Britney’s best interest and said the ruling was unable to be appealed.

“This suspension is directly what Britney wanted, she does not want Jamie in her life,” Rosengart said on Wednesday.

The filing also says Britney Spears’ circumstances have changed “to such an extent that grounds for establishment of a conservatorship may no longer exist.”

A hearing that will determine whether to terminate the conservatorship altogether is scheduled for November 12.

Britney’s fiancé, Sam Asghari, celebrated the decision on Wednesday. “Free Britney!” he wrote on Instagram. “Congratulations!!!!”

Earlier this month, Jamie filed a petition to end the conservatorship completely. Per NBC News, Jamie filed a petition with the Los Angeles County Superior Court on September 6 that says his daughter “is entitled to have this Court now seriously consider whether this conservatorship is no longer required.”

The petition stated that the law under the probate code doesn’t require Britney to undergo a new psychological evaluation to terminate the conservatorship— something Britney already told the court she refuses to do.

Seemingly in response to the judge’s decision to suspend her father from having control over her life, Britney posted an Instagram video where she says she’s “on cloud 9 right now.”

Jodi Montgomery, who took over control over Britney’s personal and health decisions under the conservatorship in 2019, told the court earlier this summer that she doesn’t believe Jamie needs to be in charge of Britney’s financial decisions any longer.

She says she has personally witnessed the relationship between Britney and Jamie, and described their dynamic as “not psychologically healthy” for the singer’s mental health. She called Jamie Spears’ removal critical to Britney Spears’ mental health and added that it is her belief that no relative should be in charge of the case—including her mother, Lynn Spears, who is also on record in the documents as supporting the decision to remove Jamie from power.

“I have had numerous, ongoing conversations with the medical team, and we all agree that it would be best for Ms. Spears’ well-being and mental health that her father stop acting as her Conservator,” Montgomery said.

In a scathing testimony she gave back in June, Britney told the judge and court that she has been denied the right to have more children. She said her father has exercised control over her reproductive rights throughout the conservatorship.

“I was told, right now in the conservatorship, I’m not able to get married or have a baby,” Britney said. “I have an [IUD] inside of myself right now so I don’t get pregnant. I wanted to take the IUD out so I could start trying to have another baby. But this so-called team won’t let me go to the doctor to take it out because they don’t want me to have any more children. So basically, this conservatorship is doing me way more harm than good.”

Jamie Spears’ suspension is a big win for the #FreeBritney fans who have spent years protesting the conservatorship. Many fans of Britney Spears have long believed her father has been exploiting her for his own financial benefit.

Regardless of his daughter’s testimony, Jamie Spears still denies all allegations of abuse.
